Wickham set to be loaned out

Connor Wickham is set to be loaned out by new Sunderland boss Gus Poyet.

Poyet has already agreed to loan out David Vaughan, with Nottingham Forest in pole position to finalise a deal for the Wales international midfielder.

Now Wickham is the next name on the list, and the 20-year-old forward is set to finalise a move once his destination is decided.

According to Sky Sports up to half-a-dozen Championship clubs have made contact with Sunderland, who are now assessing the options.

Sunderland and Poyet want Wickham to play on a regular basis, and that is believed to be the main consideration when it comes to deciding which club he will join.

The England Under-21 striker, who spent time with Sheffield Wednesday last season, has started one league game for Sunderland this season.
