Transfer Talk: Hull and Stoke will battle it out to sign Sunderland midfielder

@Sunderlandafc11

Former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce  is in a scrap with old mate Mark Hughes for the signing of Lee Cattermole.

Sunderland tell Catts he can leave

Sunderland have ditched the midfielder due to his poor discipline, sparking a £4million fight between Hull City Manager Steve Bruce and new Stoke Manager Mark Hughes.

Bruce worked with Cattermole at Wigan before bringing him to Sunderland, and remains a big admirer of the former Middlesbrough man.

Cattermole’s injury record means there is a major question mark over his future with the Black Cats now that new head coach Paolo Di Canio – who demands exacting levels of physical fitness is in charge. When fit, the 25-year-old midfielder has been an automatic choice in his four years at Sunderland. But a series of injuries notably back, hamstring and knee have meant he has started less than half Sunderland’s league games in that time. And a knee ligament injury has meant Cattermole has played just one Premier League game since November, although he is on course to be fit for the start of the new season.

Cattermole has made 87 Appearances for Sunderland picking up 34 yellow cards and 5 red cards
