Sunderland are continuing their recruitment drive with checks on Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost.

A former target of new chief scout Valentino Angeloni when he was at Inter Milan.

Dost was wanted by Everton, Liverpool and West Ham last summer while Swansea and Aston Villa have monitored his progress this season. Bost has grown frustrated after being left on the bench and will consider a move.

Inter Milan, under Angeloni’s advice, looked at the former Dutch Under 21 star in January but were put off by the German side’s asking price.

The 24-year-old striker has been prolific throughout his career and 47 goals in 66 appearances for Heerenveen led to an £8m move to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in 2012, where he scored eight goals in 24 games.

Bost has grown frustrated after being left on the bench and will consider a move.
