ROY AT PUTNEY 18/8/07

Welcome to Roy Hucker’s web site. The majority of you using the site will be familiar with his condition and the early stages of recovery at St Peters Hospital. Roy then spent 25 weeks at Walton Community Hospital and from May 2007 until May 2008 he was at The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney, where he undertook a rehabilitation programme and assessment. Since May this year he has finally settled into the lovely Wingham Court Nursing Home in Surrey. It is now nearly two years since Roy first became ill in July 2006. He has conquered many battles along the way and faced his predicament with courage and determination. Roy has suffered in so many ways yet he never complains and rarely shows anger or frustration. Roy is very unlikely to regain a complete recovery but because the prognosis for ADEM is so uncertain the family hope and pray that Roy will regain some quality of life, especially in relation to his posture and movement. The myelin can regenerate apparently but Roy was severely affected by onset of this awful condition. We will also never give up on the hope that he may regain his taste buds and remember that food is for enjoying. With all the love and healing thoughts sent out for him anything is possible for Roy.

The links on the left hand menu will provide access to the many areas of Roy’s life including his family, the Royal Navy, The Spiritualist Church and a link to his grandchildren and their achievements. The calendar is a daily diary providing updated information and news on Roy’s life in hospital. This is the most popular link as it provides a daily update. Messages of love and support can be left on the guest book link and these have been a great source of support for the family. You can actually open all messages at the foot of the page and this will show just how many friends Roy has across the world (It is a long list!).
ASHLEIGH & AIMÉE WITH GRANDAD ROY IN THE GARDEN AT PUTNEY 9/6/07

Please take time to view all pages on the site and don’t forget the links tab, which will give access to the relevant web pages that will explain Roy’s illness and where Kevin conducts so much of his research. The Transverse Myelitis Association is a great source of help and support with forums enabling Kevin to communicate with other sufferers of ADEM and Transverse Myelitis. This is the only web site available, which deals specifically with Roy’s condition. The Johns Hopkins Institute in America is the worlds leading hospital for such cases.
