Cairds' Cave dated back to 300BC

Usage of Cairds' Cave has been found to date back to the Iron Age. During the excavation in June 2010, several pieces of bone were saved from layers under the present floor. In the deepest layer of Trench 2, at the mouth of the cave, a piece of bone and another of charcoal were saved for analysis. These were found to date back to 300BC. Higher layers of the floor revealed more recent dates of 300AD (600 years later).
