Excavations started at Caird's Cave as planned on Monday 21st June 2010, under the direction of Hugo Lamdin-Whymark.  The first day was spent clearing the site, erecting the site marquee and toilet tent and planning the first trenches.  On Day 2 excavation began in Trench 1, inside the cave, and Trenches 3 & 4 which are outside the cave.  Day 3 saw a second trench (no. 2) opened, again inside the cave.
