The Rosemarkie Caves Project (RCP) steering group is working to secure funding for an excavation of Cairds' Cave in June of this year (21 June-04 July). This cave is believed to have been excavated in 1907-12 by Dr William MacLean, the local Fortrose and Rosemarkie doctor. He found bone implements, including a bone pin inset with amber, believed to have dated from 800AD. However, the doctor left no known written records so the RCP plans to investigate his trenches and complete with a published report on the archaeology and condition of the cave.
