Open Day 2012: 30th June 2012

POST EVENT UPDATE

Main event area

Despite the odd (really really) heavy summer shower, we had a successful open day with approx. 70 people visiting our site. Amongst the visitors was the Lord Mayor himself, who sampled the excellent barbecue food and locally brewed beer.

A rare sunny day photo!

A big thank-you goes to all who lent a hand cutting the grass, litter picking, organising food / drink, opening their plots, conducting tours, manning the gates and various stalls. The day could not have functioned without the generousity and good spirit of various plot holders and their associated friends and family.

Last year scores of Penkhull, Hartshill and Stoke residents came to see what goes on behind the gates at Richmond Street Allotments when we opened our gates to all comers for a special open day.

We and our visitors had such good fun we have decided to repeat the event again this year.

Gates will be open from 12:00 until 16:00 on Saturday June 30th.

The programme this year includes a display area given over to;

  • the ins and out of bee-keeping,
  • a brewing demonstration (with some of the finished product to sample)
  • demonstration sessions showing hanging basket techniques (including some edible ones!).
  • A raffle and lots more..

Visit some of our allotment plots

Visitors will be able to look around the site and some of our plot-holders will be on hand to show you around their plots.

Enjoy a barbecue and local foods

There will be a barbecue with quality locally sourced meat and bread alongside a Thai buffet. There will also be cakes and other food and drink provided by our members. We look forward to seeing you there – hope the weather is good!
