It was the Railway Inn (1) first home game of the season against one of the top 4 teams in the division, the Abbey (1). In previous seasons we have drawn against these guys so upgrading to a win was always on the mind of the players.

We found ourselves 2 nil down as the Abbey (1) show'd us why theyve been a top 4 team for many years, but that sort of statistic ment nothing to the past two seasons wooden spoon awardee as The Green Monster came on to turn our fortunes around and duly accepted this challange, 2 v 1 now and a happy feeling around the camp. up next was one of our new signings young Sam, went on without a worry in his head, fantasic finish 2 v 2 now, 2 soon became 3 with some more great pool and by the end of the singles it was a close 4-4. Doubles now and the Green Monster and Karlos went on, had a half way thru argument and looked to have lost their game but kept their heads and won!! brill, fab, fantastic!! abbey pulled one back to make it 5-5 then some great pool from our team made it a definate point as we edged 6-5 in front. up last was our Captain and Bruce Almighty, we've surely won this was the thoughts going thru our heads. Jim leaving a great white tight on the balk end rail left the Abbey (1) with nothing+bad cueing which they failed to handle, Bruce stepped up made a fantastic longpot and also got himself in perfect position to pot a red which was the hardest on table to finish. great pot, on to black, that gets sunk and The Railway Inn (1) brings the Abbey (1) right back down to earth. 7 - 5 to us, we sent them homewards tae think again!!
