Based on themes chosen by yourself and our creative director you can enter your original poems and have them displayed online for the World Wide Web to appreciate. And not only that you can win genuine cash prizes. The best poem will be chosen by the members and our team.

Nicky Bates 'Nurse Nicky'

Firstly a nurse with over 15 years experience working in a variety of interesting and challenging positions. I currently run first aid courses for individuals wishing to brush up on their first aid skills.

Secondly my other passion in life is poetry........

I was told I had a rare talent for writing poetry when I was just fifteen. I had just written a poem about war for my English Literature lesson. We submitted the work and I was told the Headmaster wanted to see me soon after. Being very shy at that time I was terrified and wondered what had I done wrong.

'It's about your poem on war Nicky I was very impressed by the magnitude of the words but I don't believe you have written this. 'Therefore I want you to sit and write me two more verses so I can see if you did indeed write it!'

No pressure then thought I, so I sat and wrote the two more verses he required and I left his office feeling about 10 feet tall.

The talent I never knew existed had been unleashed and 26 years later I still embrace poetry with a passion.

So what have I been doing with this rare talent?

Well.... had a few poems published for magazine articles.

Won a national poetry competition

Have written poems for charity events, wedding anniversaries, birthdays, leaving dos, funerals and for special occasions. Mostly I write for myself and now I want to share my gift with you. Have fun and get creative.
