The Charity
In 2009 we are supporting children in our community all money to benefit The Children's Hospital Oxford (CHOx). The money raised this year will go into the Hospital's Fund for Children supporting areas such as the Outpatients department, the wards or other areas and will support the future enhancement of developments and purchase of new equipment and toys for all the poorly children. >>> Who your money will help - an amazing patient The new Children's Hospital opened in January, 2007 and treats 60,000 youngsters from Oxfordshire and across the country for a wide spectrum of routine and specialist treatments. CHOx is one of a handful of purpose-built, child-and-family-friendly children's hospitals in Britain. The facilities at the Children's Hospital have only been made above and beyond the usual NHS standard, thanks to a huge community fundraising campaign. The dedicated and integrated children's hospital has enhanced the already fantastic care the John Radcliffe Hospital provided to its little people's big needs, and has bought the majority of its childrens services, also from the old Radcliffe Infirmary, into this spectacular state of the art medical instiution which cost £30 million. Children are treated for a range of conditions including heart disease, chest disease, childhood cancer, neurological disorders and those requiring general or specialist surgery. There is accommodation for parents to stay overnight, either next to their child's bed or in a dedicated parents/carers accommodation suite. The Hospital, officially opened in a ceremony by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, in November 2008 after over £14 million had been collected. You can see from the picture just what a difference the money raised to build the Children's Hospital at the John Radcliffe site has made, and, with your help, Play2Give's 6-a-side football tournament this year can save even more and make a difference to many more sick children's lives. In 2008, we supported Oxford Children's Hospital (CHOX) once again, the fantastic new state of the art unit treating over 65,000 sick youngsters (and Play2Gives inspiration), and the Abingdon Town Amateur Boxing Clubwhose raising £200,000 to build their own purpose-built indoor gym build by 2010.
Andrew and co-organiser Maxine Ford presented them each with cheques for £1,700 on 17th November. In previous years (besides CHOX annually), other charities we have supported include:
