Highland Perthshire CIC September
2009 Newsletter
The launch of The Pitlochry Area Community Interest Company took place on Friday 4th Sept at Moness Hotel and Country ClubAberfeldy. Local MSP John Swinney was there to launch the new company . Guests were drawn from Community Councils ,Councillors and the Business Community.
Stephen Bolland Chairman of the Enchanted Forest Steering Group and Events C0-ordinator for the CIC, and Karen Aycan Director, gave a presentation of the past, present and future plans of this Highland Perthshire Company. In his proposals Stephen explained that after running this years’ Autumn Festival it was planned to run next year a Festival for all Highland Perthshire next year. To that end we are looking for support , ideas and committee members from all parts of our area. The Company are also responsible from November this year for the running of the Enchanted Forest for 2010. Last year we had 19500 visitors and we hope to increase numbers next year. The show this year is changing the format, from 1 large spectacle to a series of mini shows or tableaus using different display techniques to entertain visitors. We have also been asked to look into other exciting ventures that would enhance this part of Perthshire. Our aim is not only to run events but to add to basic skills, training and increase employment .
John Swinney the Cabinet Minister for Finance and Sustainable Growth wished the company success. He said this initiative fitted in well with his government’s plans for locally based growth in tourism and economic development. He added that it was up to go ahead communities like this, to come up with plans that complimented The Town Centre Regeneration Scheme and other Government initiatives.
Ken Lyall the P & K Councillor for Aberfeldy then thanked John for coming and was pleased that the Council was fully committed to support groups such as this. He was glad that Shelly Hague from the Economic Development Department of P & K Council had been involved throughout this start up. More local communities need to take the future into their own hands.
