The first half of the game was fairly open with chances at both ends. Yet another midfield pairing saw Neale Brown paired with Abernethy but the two were finding some space in the middle and one of the better chances fell to Brown when the ball was cut back but the shot was off target. At the other end the Choppers defence looked reasonably comfortable with most of the danger coming through Hiltons wide midfielders. The deadlock was broken just before the break following a corner, the ball fell to a Hilton player on the edge of the box and a cruel deflection diverted the ball into the net.
Into the second half and the game remained tight with Hilton forcing Macleod into some good saves, one especially being clawed back after a header looked goal bound. A goalmouth scramble from a corner looked to have equalised but the ball was cleared off the line by a Hilton defender. After Cooke and Cameron went off injured the play seemed to open up with Choppers pushing for goals more space opened up and Hilton took advantage by scoring a quartet of goals in similar fashion as they exploited space at the back attacking quickly from midfield.
