Here we are into another year - our 16th year at the Oakwood! We look forward to welcoming all new and returning visitors to the area to add that lovely mix to our local customers.
We have had quite a busy off season period, not just in the restaurant but also with our project of converting a former fishing boat into a floating hotel, we are hoping to offer luxury bed & breakfast accommodation (with or without dinner) in the spring of 2018. The boat ' Highland Lassie' has been close to our heart, built from the deck upward with wind blown oak sourced locally, the build follows the line of the hull with sweeping curves which makes her very pretty to look at. Berthed on the Caledonian Canal just a ten minute walk from us offers the perfect relaxed and tranquil spot to wake up to, and only 15 minutes by car from the town centre makes her a ideal place to book. In the spring of 2019 she will be offering all-inclusive 6 night cruises on the West Coast of Scotland for 8 guests to experience the majesty of the Scottish landscapes in and about the Islands in total luxury. Should you require any information about the 'Highland Lassie' feel free to enquire and we will send you details along with the back history of the build.
Of course our first love is here at the Oakwood Restaurant where we still insist on offering you the very best Scotland's larder has to offer, not fancy - just honest! We as a family are passionate about what we do and we hope it shows. We consider most of our regular locals as friends and thank you all for your continued custom.
Since the Jacobite Cruise office came to our village we have found that is has been quite convenient for both locals and visitors alike due to the open topped bus which stops in their car park just beside us at regular intervals, (Far more regular than our local buses!), which means for £10 you can hope on and off all day long, but best of all you can hop off at the Oakwood armed with a bottle (or two) of wine, enjoy a fantastic early lunch, late lunch or even early dinner, and hop back on to town - Some visitors make it the very best experience by having a cruise either before or after eating. Just the ticket - so to speak... (Unfortunately it doesn't run at night...)
It all sounds like so much fun I almost wish I could join you - but I will be in the kitchen doing what I love best - feeding you all with Scotland's real food. We always have the most amazing langoustine on our specials board delivered daily, sizes depending on what the fishermen that day has been able to land.
We all, me Gaby, Gus, and our two ladies from the village Heather & Gillian offer you a very warm welcome... see you soon.
