Welcome to

North Stifford Dog Training

                            Kennel Club Listed established 1999.

Classes are held at North Stifford Village Hall and Chadwell St Mary  in Thurrock, Essex. Group classes are on a Monday evening and  are kept small. It is a requirement to have a one to one lesson before going into the group classes. We have found that handlers and dogs fit into the class environment much better after the one to one lesson because they then have an insight and understanding into our methods of training. Some dogs are not suited to group lessons and the one to one lesson would be offered as an alternative. All breeds are welcome.

Puppy Socialising.

Puppy socialisng is very important, your puppy needs to see and experience many different things to enable him/her to have a happy contented life. We offer a home visit if your vet has advised to keep your puppy in until its second vaccination. The sooner you start training your puppy the better.

Puppy Class.

Our puppy class consists of introducing your puppy to other dogs and people in a controlled manner. Your dog will learn how to walk without pulling on lead, recalls, sits and downs. Your puppy will learn how to be a dog that is well mannered and not be a nuisance, covering jumping up or mouthing, grooming and  approach to other dogs. We are happy to help you with any problems you may feel you have with your puppy and offer general advice.

Improvers Class.

This class is for dogs of six months and over. This class consists of all the exercises of the above class and prepares the dog and handler for the next class, which is:-

Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme.

This class is for the the dog and handler that have completed training in one of the above classes.

We bring in more advanced training and self-control exercises (not easy for a dog!) such as stopping your dog when it is chasing something or remaining in a "stay" when there are distractions.

This class should give you a well-controlled dog (provided you do the homework, of course!).

It also gives the handler and dog a chance to gain a certificate for the Bronze, Silver and Gold KCGCDS award. The bronze is basic dog handling, silver is intermediate and the gold is advance handling.

Advance Class.

Here we cover a lot of the same things, but at a much higher level. By now your handling skills are improved, and training can REALLY start.

This class is for the dog and handler that want that bit extra or compete in competitve dog shows. There is no pressure to compete, exercises taught are retrieve, scent discrimination, sendaway, distance control, advance heelwork and general fun and games. Many people attend this class for years and it becomes a social event for the owners as well as the dogs.

One To One Training

Some owners prefer to have individual lessons instead of (or as well as) classes. In addition there are many issues that are best solved outside of classes. We do a lot of work with rescue dogs that have problems. Most can be helped with correct training and can then go on to classes if appropiate.
