WELCOME TO NORFOLK GRAVESTONE INSCRIPTIONS

A few years ago I started researching our family history and during this time we found it necessary to start looking around the churchyards of Norfolk to find some of our ancestors.

While searching I noticed some of the monuments were very hard to read which led us to believe there was a necessity to record these digitally before it was too late.

There are absolutely hundreds of these monuments in churchyards that are deteriorating at an alarming rate, I am trying very hard to transcribe them now before they are lost forever

Recently somebody remarked that there were no inscriptions earlier than around the 1830's and this person was quite nasty to me for not listing hardly any, it was the case that there wasn't any! This verbal attack on me was extremely upsetting, they obviously don't realise the hard work that went into doing the ones I did.

It has been an enormous task for me to transcribe these gravestones and on my own. The ones that I have listed are there because I could just about read them and any younger ones than this is virtually impossible to find. If I do find them and it's very rare, I will list them, but due to the dreadful wear on the stonework it's an uphill struggle, please believe me, I am not a miracle worker, but I have tried my very best.

If you are researching your family history in Norfolk

You will find links on each of the churches listed to the left of this introduction. Look for the surname that you are searching for on that particular page and click on that link. This will take you to the relevant Kindle book which has that surname listed and may be downloaded from the Amazon website.

All of these Paperback/Kindle books are available worldwide so if you're searching from any other country, please go to your own particular Amazon website and search for Norfolk Gravestone Inscriptions.
