Plenty happening

It’s been a busy time here at mtbsurreyhills/Dorking Cocks. There’s been trips to South Wales, Stag Rides and all manner of local riding from the flat out XC to more enduro style efforts. Conditions over the past few weeks have generally been fantastic and the miles have been adding up nicely.

Early June saw a huge turn out for Kiwi Mikes Stag ride. Starting from Nirvana and adorned with a box of left over Christmas reindeer antlers we set of into the hills. We opted to get the main riding out the way 1st with a Leith Hill classic for a couple of hours taking in all our favorite singletracks. Being a Stag ride pubs were to feature quite heavily the 1st of which was the Stephen Langton where not only were a couple of pints each consumed but also a snack lunch.

From here the pace picked up as we headed directly for the Kings Head at Holmbury where another pint or two were enjoyed in the garden sunshine. People were coming and going throughout the ride with just a few of us seeing the whole thing from start to finish.

Next on the agenda was a ride up and over Holmbury Hill taking in the classic trails of Park Life and Golden Birdies (Yogurt Pots and BKB) which rather nicely dropped us to pub number 3, The Hurtwood Inn. More sitting in the sun drinking beer followed along with a fairly endless stream of talking rubbish. Another pleasant hour or so there and it was once again time to move on and this meant heading directly over to The Windmill, a pub stop we haven't used for years.

Again we opted for the garden to lap up the sunshine and the beers. All this lazing around in the sun was all very well but there was drinking to be done and a need to be in Dorking for the evening. There had been lots of discussion in previous days about where to eat but eventually it was decided to head over to The Volunteer for yet more beers and a proper meal.

On arrival it was still warm and sunny and the tables out front were too good to turn down. The beer was still flowing nicely and the food was most welcome.

So, with 5 pubs down and at least 6 pints (probably 7 by this time) it was time to head for Dorking and a night in the Kings Arms. And what a fab night it was too with plenty of 'The Cocks' turning out to drink Beer, JD's, Sambuca and Jägermeister whilst watching/listening to 'The Salts' and their sea shanties - great day and evening.
