Longest ride of the year so far.

So George and myself set off towards Abinger Roughs but had a late change of plan so whilst in the deerleap region headed off up White Down  to pick up a route over to Reigate Hill which was our new destination. Once up the hill we picked our way through frozen ruts and the last remains of the snow to Ranmore. It was then down Red White and Rose to the A24.

Next it was the Box Hill climb which at least was mud free but still a slog as usual. From here we headed over to the Smith and Western then to Pebble Hill via High Ashurst  and Headley Heath. From Pebble Hill the going was good over to Reigate Hill where we had a little time looking around trying to find the Sportsman pub at Mogador without success.

Initially we were going to stop at the Reigate Hill cafe but George was determined we should go and visit Fannys Farm - I'd never been there before so it sounded like a good plan to me. Once there we enjoyed a fine and warming hot drink, some excellent home made sausage rolls and my all time favorite desert of butterscotch tart.

After a look around and suitable re fueled it was time to head for home. It was bitter on the road decent from Fannys but that was soon forgotten as we climbed back up Reigate Hill. George was now on a mission to get home in time to watch the North London derby (bet he wished he'd missed it now) so we took a direct route back along Colly Hill. Before reaching Pebble Hill again we opted to decend off road down towards betchworth, all was fine until the trail flattened out and we went from chalk to the stickest boggiest clay I have ever been through - no chance of riding, infact you couldn't even push the bike as the wheels were locked solid by the gloop, it took both of us to lift each bike over a style and never have I been so pleased to hit tarmac and finally rid the bike of the majority of the mud.

Thankfully the rest of the ride home was easy as we took a detour through Brockham and along the old coach road and finally back into Dorking. by the time I was home we had clocked up a respectable 32 miles and over 3,000 feet of climbing.
