Where did November go

Well that’s just flown by, into December already.  Not too much riding was done in November partly due to the dismal weather and also a bit of a mojo (or lack of) problem. Still, managed to clock up over 200 low quality miles but they all count and with a bit of luck that yearly 4,000 mile target is just about in reach.

November did end well though with a very decent ride on Saturday with George and Mark – we headed out over Abinger roughs and up onto Holmbury hill to take in Golden Birdie down to Peaslake. We then progressed across Pitch hill and onto Winterfold where we rode a nice new little track I discovered the weekend before. After this it was the usual route over to Farley Heath and then onto Blackheath were we did a little exploring – the ground over that we is holding up very well in the wet conditions and made for some good riding.

We eventually turned up in Blackheath Village and with the Villagers pub still sadly closed decided to head on over to Newlands Corner for our food stop.  Mark and myself were on our single speeds but both managed to make it up water lane and all the way to the top, it took quite some effort with legs straining to keep the pedals turning. George with his gears wasn’t quite his usual self but eventually joined us in the queue for some well-earned and needed refreshments – cracking bacon roll it was too.

Suitably refreshed we headed back for home along the top of the North Downs diverting back down to Gomshall on ‘Petrol Pump’ – this is a relatively new and cracking trail but is so hard to find and follow with all the leaf litter at present – we made one mistake on it but retraced our steps to pick up the correct line. With this trail dispatched we continued for home once again traversing the Abinger Roughs to arrive safely back in Westcott tired but happy.
