Late Start

Got delayed on the way home from work last night and passed Mark in his car so knew he was late too.

After a quick phone call we arranged to meet for a 7.15 start and head off in search of the rest of the 'Cocks'. Simon had requested the main group text him to confirm which pub they were going to but alas that didn't happen so we arranged to meet him anyway at the Plough.

After the mornings rain trail conditions were perfect with all the dust dampned down and still dry fast trails. We headed out over Abinger Roughs then up onto Holmbury Hill. Park Life and Telegraph were both riding beautifully and the ride had a very 'old school' feel about it.

After Telegraph we headed up the road to Holmbury village and then climbed up onto Leith Hill via 'The Mother'. Due to the late start we didn't have a great deal of time but picked our way up to the tower incorporating some nice sections of singletrack. From the tower it was a blast down to Coldharbour Cricket Pitch on the offical trail then straight down to the Plough by just gone 9 where we found Simon waiting.

I had thought that George would be there to watch the Arsenal game but there was no sign of him or the rest of the group so Mark, myself and Simon enjoyed a pint or 3 before heading for home down Wolvens Lane.

With just the 2 of us it meant we could just keep riding without the endless re groupings that tend to plague a large group ride. So, after 18 miles at an average of just under 10mph and nearly 2,000 feet of climbing I can safely say it was a most enjoyable evenings entertainment.
