July

Well, July has been a bit of a funny month so far, largely due to the very unseasonal weather. It feels like most of the month has been spent dodging the rain and having to clean the bike after every ride at this time of year just isn’t what’s supposed to happen.

Our weekend trip to Sussex has been put back virtually every weekend through the month and now we at last have a dry one forecast too many people are unavailable to do it so once again it gets delayed.

On the other hand, we now have 12 fully paid up riders for D2D on October 8th /9th so despite the terrible conditions last year we actually have another team entered and still have more people wanting to join in so who knows, perhaps even a 4th team will appear.

Not that long now until the Brighton Big Dog races which some of the Cocks are taking part in. I happen to be away that weekend so look forward to hearing all about it upon my return from the Alps.

With regard to riding locally, well, as ever the Wednesday rides having been going well and staying well attended. This week there was 12 of us at the start although I did head off alone for a short ride and beer at the Plough whilst the rest of the group had a fun time on Leith Hill before beers at the Kings Head in Holmbury.

2 weeks ago we were joined by Dave from the North Pennines who was working over Guildford way for a week. He contacted me through this website and joined us for a fun filled Leith Hill ride taking in loads of singletrack and as he said himself, more roll ins/drop offs in one ride than he has done in the last 5 years – I think he enjoyed himself and we have told him to feel free to join us again if he ends up working in the area in the future.

The Nirvana Saturday rides are also still going strong even if last Saturdays was at a more leisurely pace than normal. Still, the miles were covered with a big loop going out via Abinger, Gomshall, Shere and Albury and then returning through Winterfold, Peaslake, Holmbury, Leith Hill and Coldharbour including a brief stop at the new Nirvana pit stop shop in that village. About 30 miles were covered and Simon and myself rounded the trip off nicely with a couple of the aptly named Le Peloton beers being sold at the Crown in Westcott (and very nice it is too).
