Not long now

Well, it’s not long now until Mountain Mayhem. Last time we did this event was way back in 2004 when we were one of the four Nirvana Panasonic teams; it rained a lot in the night and was a bit of a mud fest for a while. Hopefully this year will be dryer; surely it can’t be worse than the D2D we did at Thetford last October or the Strathpuffer a year previous to that.

Our team is Ray (his 1st race), Antony, Simon and myself so that’s just me left from the 2004 team, perhaps that just shows a lack of sense on my behalf.

In other news, Carl has had his collar bone plated and I am told that Tred is also back on the bike even if gingerly at the moment. The latest injury thou is Brian who has a bad back, so bad in fact that he has been off work for about 3 weeks now and has hardly been able to leave his house so I am told.

As for actual riding, we’ll there has been plenty of that going on. For me, I got out alone last Thursday, Friday and Saturday covering about 60 miles all together but missed out on the regular group rides for various reasons.

Last night there were 6 of us out despite the rain and we followed a route taking in the tops of both Holmbury and Leith Hills and one or two tracks that we haven’t done for a long time as well as good old favourites such as Ishouldcoco & the mother.

Everyone seemed a little subdued, perhaps it was the weather but still, we managed to find our way over to the Plough for a couple of fine pints of Leith Hill brewery beer. The decent home to Westcott that followed was as good as ever taking in Summer Lightning and Billy’s Runaway down to Logmore Green before crossing Logmore lane and following paths all the way in to the village eventually coming out next to the old Nirvana shop.

Antony, Paul, Duncan, Simon, Charlie and myself made up the 6 riders who covered the 23 mile route.
