Nearly There

Well, as we head towards the end of November and enter the final month of the year I still seem to be finding the going hard on the bike. At least I've managed to get out a bit thou, doing 4 rides in the last 5 days has helped me get my monthly mileage up to a vaguely respectable 120 miles or so.

With my yearly target of 3,000 miles now only 60 miles or so away (just two decent rides) I really think that I'm going to make it this year unless December is a complete disaster.

I bumped into Carl at Peaslake on Saturday who is back on the Mountain bike taking it easy as his ankle has virtually fully recovered from its break. I also gather that Antony will be back on the bike in early December which would seem like a remarkable recovery judging from the x-ray posted on our forum.

Also on Saturday, just near the top of the rookery, I met the Nirvana Saturday ride (which consisted of Mike and Simon) coming the other way. Just shows how the numbers riding at this time of year can fall away due to the weather and other commitments.

On my Sunday jaunt I met up with George and Charlie at the tower and after anjoying a tea and cake I headed off with them back down to Westcott. I have to say that Charlie was flying, he just seems to get quicker and quicker and that was on his rigid singlespeed - don't know how he does it. George was suffering from chainsuck and as for me, I had no such problems on my alfine equiped Charge Duster 8 which despite feeling a bit heavy (largely due to my recent struggles with fitness) certainly had no problems what so ever with the gears.

Last night saw George and Mike and myself meet up at the Plough Coldharbour before heading up the hill to have a bit of a cook up on what was a very cold but beautiful night. Tallywhackers at the Plough were as good as ever. Right, off up to Scotland on the sleeper train tonight with the better half for a short break so no more biking until December unless I'm lucky enough to sneak a quick Tuesday ride in next week - fingers crossed.
