To work and back

What with all the good weather I have been able to raise the enthusiasm to actually cycle commute to work once a week. The journey from home to Redhill is ok, a mixture of back roads and bridleways, nothing to write home about but pleasent enough.

The real joy of the commute is the trip home; without the time constraints of needing to be at a certain place at a certain time, the trip home can be varied to pretty much any length I feel like.

So, with all the great weather, yesterday after the 12 mile trip in to work I opted for a much longer nearly all off road route home which ended up at about 24 miles.

From the middle of Redhill its a bit of tarmac up towards gatton point but from here on its nearly all on the rough stuff. Up to the top of Reigate hill and all along the top to Pebble hill. From here its round the back to Headley heath, past the caravan down then up onto Mickleham down.

From here I went down 'Alsation' for the 1st time ever which I have to say was quite fun and then accross the A24 round the edge of Leatherhad and over to Bocketts farm. Still feeling surprisingly fresh despite the heat I continued on my way eventually coming out by the saw mill. From here I made my way over to the top of Ranmore before desending back down to Westcott. Having been up Leith Hill via the bury hill fisheries a few times lately, this time I opted for the good old Rookery climb all the way to Coldharbour where I stopped for a mars bar at the pub and a chat with the locals.

With the depleted sugar levels restored it was a quick blast home via a few cheeky trails and the road to Capel just in time for dinner. Top ride, very enjoyable in the summer sun.
