Routine Ride

With all the good weather I was expecting a big turn out this Wednesday so was a little surprised that only 7 other riders made it out. Still, 8 is a good number and all were familiar faces. This week there was John, Mike, Carl, Mark, Paul, Duncan, Huw and myself. As for most rides when I'm around I got appointed as leader but was glad Huw was there to share the 'burden' when necessary.

Anyway, we headed out over the Abinger Roughs, round the back of Gomshall and Shere and up onto Albury Heath. There is a lovely singletrack section there which I wanted to do and that we did. It does a big circle ending up at the Cricket pitch. From here we made our way over to Pond Lane and started the climb up to Winterfold.

I don't think I've ever seen the track so dry and fast progress was made. With the help of a few cheeky trails and Huw's ever impressive trail knowledge we eventually made our way over to the Windmill. From here we made our way up to the top of pitch hill and then desended all the way back down to Peaslake on the collection of 'T' trails.

Still, with the exception of John and Mike who nipped into the Hurtwood Inn for a pint, the rest of us had no time to hang around and climbed off road up to the top of Holmbury Hill. From here it was a quick blast around 'Parklife' and then the final decent for our real beer stop at the Kings Head in Holmbury.

Just as we started our 2nd pints, John and Mike arrived and joined us (Carl had gone straight home) Once suitably refreshed it was time to mount up again and head for Westcott. This we did using a mixture of trails to get over to Abinger Common where we then cut across to Friday Street, up and over to Broadmoor then blast home via the waterfall trail, and the rookery. 24 miles in all and another routine ride in the bag.
