The Villagers

What with all this long overdue dry weather, last Wednesday saw a big turn out for the usual evening ride. We decided to head over to Newlands Corner to try out the trails over that way.

With perfect conditions fast progress was made out of Westcott and up onto the North downs. We sped along the top only diverting to take in Abba Zabba and blind terror. A double puncture for Simon delayed us for a while but we soon arrived at Newlands.

Once there we picked up all the singletrack behind the car park before headingon over to Pewley down which incorporates one of the best sections of singletrack I know. We headed down then up to the chantries where we did the standard route which is a fantastic blast and comes out near warwicks bench. From here it was back up the Chantries and then a traverse of the scout camp before decending to Chilworth, riding through the old gunpowder factories and then on up to Blackheath and our beer stop at the Villages.

After a couple of pints of TEA  and Shere Drop it was time to leave. We took the usual most direct route back over to Farley Green then past Little London. down to Shere and then along to Gomshall Abinger common and finally back to Westcott via Abinger rougths.

A very decent ride averaging over 10mph and covering about 28 miles was enjoyed by all, especially Jo and Simon who stopped off for extra beers and the William 4th Little London.
