Bacon Butty Ride

To finish this years riding we decided to do a bacon butty ride up on Leith Hill. 5 of us arranged to meet at 6.30 at the Plough Coldharbour for a beer before setting off at 7. I cycled up from home at Capel while George and Brian headed up from Dorking. Simon and John both drove and met us there.

John and smoke from the fire.

After a swift pint in the Plough we got going and headed straight for Redlands where we decended 'wave of mutilation'. From the end of that trail we climbed back up hill and straight over the road where, having played around a little we tackled 'man friday'.

 Toby complete with bacon butty.

From here we headed on towards 'summer lightning' which is where things went a little wrong. Some how Brian managed to bend his rear mech and non replaceable drop out. After much head scratching, flaffing and a fair amount of brut force we got the bike rideable again even if only as a single speed.

Despite this setback  we carried on down 'summer lightning' then decided to head back up leith hill and straight for our choosen cooking destination. Once there we got straight on with cooking the bacon and curry as well as getting a small fire going.

  Brian feeling the cold !

What with it being the coldest night of the year so far with the temperature well below zero, it was with relief that Johns fire lighting skills were up to scratch and before long we had flames to keep us warm. Once the food was ready suddenly bottles of beer and hip flasks appeared and we all sat around the fire relaxing and enjoying the warmth of the food, alcohol and fire.

Before long it was time to pack up, make sure the fire was out and head back down to the Plough for a well earned pint of Tallywhacker before leaving for home. A good night was had by all and I for one look forward to doing the same again in the spring.
