PLOCKTON HIGH PUPILS WIN THE DAY
17 March 2009
Plockton High School home economic students showed off their kitchen skills in Kyleakin Village Hall on Monday (16 March) where they demonstrated their ideas for improving the health and wellbeing of older people in Skye and Lochalsh.

The third pupils were challenged by Skye & Lochalsh Food Link (SLFL) to design a nutritionally sound and easy prepared meal, to be staged to a gathering of Skye and Lochalsh Lunch Clubs. They also designed and produced fridge magnets that featured innovative, yet simple, health and food hygiene messages.

SLFL was awarded funding by Highland Council, through Food Standards Agency Scotland’s scheme for Food Hygiene and Healthy Eating Initiatives, to run the project in partnership with Portree and Plockton High Schools.

Alan Yates, Principal Environmental Health Officer for Highland Council said: “We agree with the old adage ‘you are what you eat’, but we also believe that where, when and why you eat can be just as important. The Plockton High pupils put a great deal of thought into the project and were a credit to their school.”
