MORE THAN JUST A GOOD DAY OUT
08 March 2009
By bringing together students from Portree and Plockton High Schools with older people, we hope that old friendships will be renewed, and new friendships forged at the More Than What you Eat event on Monday 16th March in Kyleakin Village Hall.

"There are few opportunities for older people to congregate in dispersed rural populations, and it is hoped that the project will have an important and additional community benefit," said Dede MacGillivray, vice chair of Skye and Lochalsh Food Link.

"We believe that we can use our skills as a community based organisation to connect with this often vulnerable age-group, to improve understanding of the need to eat well and safely and thereby reduce the incidence of food borne illness”.

Carole Inglis, chair of Skye and Lochalsh Food Link added: “The social factors associated with the purchase and preparation of food can make an enormous difference to its enjoyment - in addition to how you buy, store, cook, chill and re-heat food - and are hugely important to health and wellbeing."
