Aberlour soon to launch; Elgin project cancelled

Moray Carshare will launch 1 electric car and 2 electric bikes in Aberlour around the 21st November, along with 2 electric bikes in Craigellachie. These services are part of a collaboration project with Moray Council, who are providing a fast charge point and 2 bike shelters through funding from the European Union's Regional Development Fund. This is part of a project to create a low carbon hub in Aberlour. The project also includes substantial improvements to the Speyside way cycling/walking path as well as a rapid charger for visitors to the area who need to charge electric cars quickly, and another charge point for an experimental electric bus service.

We will also launch 2 electric bikes housed in a purpose-built bike shelter at the Tulloch Park car park behind the town hall in Forres around the same time.

Due to the Covid situation, we will not hold a launch event, as we do not wish to encourage people gathering together. Details of exactly when the services become available and how to join will be published here on our website as well as on posters and social media in the local area.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has seriosuly reduced our income - as people travel less, our cars are being used less. As a consequence, our trustees have decided that to expand into Elgin at this time would put our finacial viability at a very strong risk. We have therefore negotiated with Moray LEADER that we scale down the development project that is funded by them. This has primarily resulted in dropping our plans to expand into Elgin. But we do hope to return and complete this expansion, once both the public health situation and the financial climate are more conducive.
