22 May 2020

Following event planning with Marie on 22 May we decided that the archive page that will be visible to those who contributed content during the phase 1 planning should no longer contain the whole story of how we got to where we had.  I agreed to transfer the content to this page to enable me to keep a track of our progress in terms of creating an 'archive'.  The following was included on the archive home page up until 22 May 2020

Phase 1 Archive

Archive of event planning activity

As the planning for the event progressed from the initial 'idea' through to clarifying it as 'an imagined possibility' to running the event we have been keeping track. These are brief details of some of the key points in its evolution as follows:

Rachael created the website and invited people, gave individuals a page and invited them to use the guidance on the home page with the following invitation:

I'm Rachael Burgess, I've been a member of the Bath Conversation cafe for four years and am currently working on clarifying my value of loving kindness and exploring my interest in Living Global Citizenship.

My Question:

How am I creating a Living Educational Therory of an Ecology of Care through my practice of Living Global Citizenship with Loving Kindness? (19Dec19) is beginning to be answered as I contribute towards creating a gathering of Living Theory Researchers with Jack, Marie and other living theorists.

My contribution began with creating the Living Theory Research Gathering - 27th June 2020 website and the home page began with the following invitation:

This website is dedicated to preparing for a Living Educational Theory Research Day due to be held on Saturday 27th June 2020. It is intended that this site will evolve over the next few months as contributions are added and responded to. If you would like to participate please contact me via the feedback facility and I will set up your own named page on the left hand menu. In your message please provide me with an email address to which I can send you a password so that you can upload and edit your own contributions. The original plan was to mimic the formatnfrom the previous two gatherings (2017 and 2019) in that the participants of the Friday Morning Conversation Cafe held in Bath (UK) would gather in person and be open for participation from the wider Living Theory Research Community via skype. With the current situation changing daily with regard to Covid-19 it is too early to say how the day will unfold. Nevertheless, with conferences being cancelled, I will be working hard to tap into the potential for technology to support us and ensure that our future event will go ahead in some form online.

Kind regards

Rachael

20 March 2020

On 27th April 2020 Rachael received an email from Jack and Marie which began:

Dear Rachael and Marie - I’m wondering what you think about the following suggestion to modify the present homepage introduction to our Living Educational Theory research gathering on the 27th June.

The three of us could work together (and to include others where appropriate) on evolving the planning the day and Marie and I could continue to respond to Rachael in the way we would to a doctoral researcher.  Here is what I’m suggesting we replace the present introduction on the homepage with - this is of course open to any modifications you think will improve it.

Rachael agreed with the suggestion and amended the homepage accordingly with a slight modication of the close from Kind Regards to Love.  (Kind regards felt - odd- too formal)

This website is dedicated to preparing for our Living Educational Theory Research Day due to be held on Saturday 27th June 2020 with virtual contributions.  It is intended that this site will evolve over the next few months as contributions are added and responded to. If you would like to participate please contact Rachael via the feedback facility and Rachael will set up your own named page on the left hand menu. In your message please provide us with an email address to which Rachael can send you a password so that you can upload and edit your own contributions.

The plan is to develop our contributions from the previous two gatherings (2017 and 2019 hosted by Rachael) with contributions on the day and to the website before the 27th June. This event is for educational practitioner researchers who want to learn by engaging in research conversations to enhance other participants' Living Educational Theory research and their own.

What we are asking is that you provide details in your web-page on the left-hand menu of url access to:

a)      Your most recent living-poster.

b)     A recent action planner focused on your research into,  'how do I/we (individually and in cooperation) enhance the difference Living Educational Theory research makes to communities (and/or organisations) concerned to extend human flourishing?

c)     A link to your own personal websites where you have given access to your writings such as your masters dissertation or doctoral thesis, your conference presentations and publications.

If we do this, by the 27th June 2020 we should have an impressive data archive that we can use as a data base that shows where our individual research programmes, 'how do I/we (individually and in cooperation) enhance the difference Living Educational Theory research makes to communities (and/or organisations) concerned to extend human flourishing?)', have got to on this day. We can then use these data in projecting ourselves, through our action planning, into a future that does not yet exist but in which we are seeking to enhance the influence of values of human flourishing. This influence could include what we see as our responsibilities as global citizens.  We could also commit ourselves to returning to a fourth Living Educational Theory research gathering to share and evaluate what we have been doing between the 27th June and our fourth meeting.

We are hoping to move forward from our second gathering on ‘Living Theory research making a difference in communities and organisations: continuing conversations.’  on the 13th April 2019 (see https://www.actionresearch.net/writings/jack/jwreport13april260419.pdf ).

28 April 2020

This is what happened:

These people contributed to the preplanning stage by putting things on their pages:

Jack

William and Jack

Rachael

Marie

Sonia

Jackie

Giulia

Jayne

Pete

Brian J

The following were also given pages with login: Moira, Joy, Swaroop, Ari, Chris J, Donna, Shelagh, Paula, Parbati, Michelle V, Brian W, Brian J, Kaz and Margaret.

We got to the stage 18th May when this had served its purpose in helping to shape the event. Those with previous logins could no longer make any changes. The content of those who put material on their page has been archived as it may serve as data for the early phases of event development.

An email was sent to those who had put 'content' on thier 'pages' to alert them to the change - the pages were archived - no further content to be added. And infomrming them that of the event and the content needed in preparation for participating in the event

Marie has uploaded the latest Living Poster Homepage. For the last two gatherings I printed out the posters and displayed them around the room with the intention of creating a presence in the room of those who were to join us via SKYPE.  Obviously this year that won't be necessary so over the next couple of days I shall be uploading the posters of the researchers whose names you can see down the left hand menu.

I'd recommend anyone wanting to join us on 27th to have a browse through the posters and hopefully get a sense of an effective way for a researcher at the beginning of their Living Theory inquiry to gain insight into the Living Theory Research Community whilst at the same time considering that the creation their own poster might be rewarding in terms of enabling them to contribute their own research interest into our community -  a kind of 'mutual learning introduction'.  In the absense of being able to meet face to face or be introduced to one another directly through email, I'm beginning to think of the posters as a way that we can say 'hello' to one another, find out a little (or a lot in some cases!) about what other research practitioners are up to in a non intrusive way that can serve as a conversation prompt when we do meet in person or online.

Living Posters

... are intended as an opportunity to bring attention to researchers' sites of practice and research interests and to help connect people with similar research interests. Pete Mellet

On visiting @Actionresearch.net I found one of Jack's latest videos on 'Living Educational Theory research .  Even though I have been a member of the community based inquiry group in Bath, UK,  I have found it most useful and again, is an easy introduction for those who are new to Living Theory Research and its growing community. Although its 24 minutes long - it's definitely worth a watch.

My Latest Living Poster: Dated 1 May 2020

My search for a new narrative begins here

I'm interested in how I can contribute to Living Theory Research as a Social Movement and from  the Living Theory Wiki Page found the following video of Jack Whitehead testing out the use of the OBS application with his paper on 'How can I enhance my contribution to Living Theory research as a social movement?' for the EJOLTS wiki to celebrate 10 years of publication.

I'm wondering if by using this form of data archive for my own research I am contributing towards Living Theory as a social movement as I engage in the worthwhile endeavour of participating in an educational epistemology with living educational theories as I create my own?   ........ (words in process)

Action Planner for Living Theory Research Gathering on 27th June 2020

The above version of the action planner I am creating is a work in progress that has been influenced by Jack and Marie. The form, as it is in above, only emerged yesterday after Jack and Marie have trawled through what I would describe as my free writing.  This afternoon I will print it and read through again as I prepare to join the Living Educational Theory research SKYPE support group for the first time.
