What are treasure baskets?

Treasure baskets encourage babies to play in a way that promotes exploration and discovery which is an important criteria underpinned in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The idea of a treasure basket was developed by Goldschmied she wanted to stress the importance of learning through the senses in early year’s education.

 

As soon as a baby can sit comfortably and can grasp and handle objects, they will benefit from exploring a treasure basket. Treasure baskets contain an assortment of natural and everyday objects (but not plastic or purchased toys). The aim is to provide a selection of resources which will stimulate the senses.
