Kyleakin Environmental Group is a constituted not-for-profit voluntary Group based in Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye that was first established in 2008.

The Objects of the Group are:

• to raise awareness of conservation and environmental issues in the Skye & Lochalsh area;
• to undertake voluntary conservation and environmental projects within the Skye & Lochalsh area;
• to work with affiliated Groups on conservation and environmental projects.

Individual Membership is open to anyone aged 16yrs and over, and at present it's FREE!  Youngsters under 16yrs  are welcome to join in any Events we run, such as Foreshore Clean Ups, but must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian.

Full training will be given on any projects that the Group undertakes, with all the necessary tools provided.

WHAT DO WE DO ?

KEG has always been involved predominantly in Litter Picking and cleaning up of the Foreshore areas around Skye & Lochalsh, so we tend to concentrate our efforts on these.

At present about 80% of our time is spent on voluntary Litter Picking around the Skye & Lochalsh area - it's excellent exercise, rewarding (no, not financially!) and a clean countryside brings in the Tourists again and again, as well as protecting local and visiting wildlife.

Litter Picking encompasses not only picking up general litter, but also Dog Poos and more recently Cigarette Ends which are both unsightly and unhygenic if picked up by curious children, as well as being toxic to marine life if flushed by rain down some of our storm drains.

IN ADDITION...

We are looking at a number of Main Projects, two of these are:

#  Establishing a Mountain Biking Trail in Kyleakin Forest as an off-road route

#  Renewing and extending the Rock Armouring on the Foreshore & An t'Obbe to prevent further erosion of the Village Estate
