Kirkhill have been relegated from the Inverness welfare division 2 after a long season where they amassed an incredible 7 points and can be counted as very unlucky to finish rock bottom of the league.
A season that had it all (well almost all) with dodgy refs, own goals, yellow cards, a solitary penalty that was missed while conceding several, 1 cup tie win due to default so all in all a succesfull season topped off with the winning of a piece of silverware.
On an epic and long journey to the northern point of mainland scotland Kirkhill gathered up their star players 1 friday afternoon and headed for durness in the team campervan. With a refreshment stop at tescos on the way all but the driver appeared to be well watered during the journey. Arriving into Durness just in time to see the pipe band close the games. The squad retired to the beer tent for a well deserved drink. Next the squad dressed for the occasion and hit the pub before venturing to the games dance where there was some interesting riverdance movements from team captain and manager leading from the front. An early start for most saw some sleepy faces over breakfast before nap time arrived in preparation of the BIG match. Which soon arrived and despite the home team sneaking a 12th man on to the pitch at the start Kirkhill blew them away scoring just seconds into the match. Kirkhill winning in the end as the game turned to 14 against 14 in increasingly packed penalty boxes. The Marty Mckay memorial Quaich was kirkhills after a splendid win, to which alot of whiskey saw its way in and out of the trophy during the wild celebrations which were had long into the night whilst jiveing away to the live music of torridon. Can another trip ever match up to this one, i believe we shall have to try and eclipse it and im sure their shall be plenty of effort put in by the squad.
