Chieftain 3-4 Kirkhill
After an afternoon of phone calling evry member of the squad replys came from a delayed ferry from uist to a beach in sunny cadiz. It soon became aparent that Kirkhill would have to start this match with just NINE men.
The team talk in the dressing room began. would it be a 4-3-1 a 3-4-1 or even a talked about 4-5-0. The latter becoming the frontrunner. Although with the arrival of Kirkhills last player to the dressing room (Morrison) he announces that the opponents too just have NINE men.
A very even game began with both teams struggling to make a clinical move forward until Kirkhill pressed forward only to see there shot from distance slipping wide of the post. Then a fantastic piece of play led to Terry Macallister been played into the box and he fired the ball low past the keeper to open the scoring. The first half ending with Kirkhill 1 nil up.
Ten minutes into the second half and Kenny Macdonald had been adjudged to have brought down the Chieftain forward in the box to award Chieftain the spot kick. Which was sent past the keeper into the back of the net. Kirkhill found the net again after a Terry Ivany strike from the edge of the box on the angle went past the keeper. Both teams then had chances aplenty as they could unsurprisingly find some space on the ball with both 2 men down the pitch was bigger for evry one. Chieftain grabbed their equaliser with 5 minutes remaining after a long deep cross evaded the defence and the Chieftain attacker slotted home his second of the game.
Kirkhill had by far the best 2 chances in the 1st half of extra time withe first John Morrison was sent clear into the box where he had a touch to many and the chieftain defence recovered to clear the danger, the shamelesly after some superb work in midfield and down the wing from an Ivany cross Simon MacGillivray put the ball wide 4 yards out at the back post with the keeper well beaten.
Chieftain got off to a great start in the 2nd half of extra time with a goal inside 2 minutes. Kirkhill kept their heads up to level the match at 3-3 when Terry Macallister produced the pass of the match to put Simon MacGillivray through and he chested the ball down before slotting the ball into the net. Then with just a minute remaining Ivany sent MacGillivray through and he cooly chipped the ball over the keeper into the net to make it 4-3 to Kirkhill.
A great result in the end against 3rd Division opposition and will now face a similar 3rd Division side in Portland c.i in the next round.
