KICHI INDIAN HORSE CLUB

Upshur County, Texas

2011

Kichi indian horse club members love their American Indian Horses- and it shows!

Our group meets several times a month to ride and enjoy our American Indian Horses.  Our members range in age from little buckaroos to i wont tells, but we all believe that our indian horses enhance the quality of our lives.

We invite horse lovers in Upshur and surrounding counties to join us in training, riding, and showing horses. AIHR will inspect and accept all breeds and register according to a classification system that insures your horse will be competing with his peers. There is no horse that is a bad color!

Indian horses came from spanish 'wild horse stock'. Many were descendents of Spanish explorers' horses. Some were stolen from western settlers, or lost from wagon trains. In fact, most horse breeds in the Americas began from spanish mustang stock, the quarter horse, the morgan horse, the appaloosa, to mention a few. Any horse can be inspected and registered with the American Indian Horse Registry, although horses already registered with established breeds may be classified as 'm' or moderns. Anyone interested in having their horse registered with the American Indian Horse Registry should email me for more information.  We would love to have you join us!

Here are some picctures of our members and their horses at several of our gatherings.  At our first gathering, we painted our ponies and practiced for halter class.  At another gathering, we practiced for trail class, at still another, we practiced the speed events. It is so much fun to get together with friends and enjoy our beautiful horses!

This is Maegan and her horse Navajo Girl.  What a great paint job! Maegan plans to show Navajo Girl in the National Indian horse show in Marshall, Texas this september.

This is Rhonda Houck.  Rhonda and Betsy are familiar with the show scene, but new to AIHR.  The Houcks, Phil and Rhonda, host our home arena, and we are grateful for all the work they have done to make our clinics fun days for everyone.

Debra and her granddaughters are enjoying with their matched pair of appaloosas Sassy and Romeo.  These two aced the trail obstacles like they'd been doing it all their lives.  Debra is an avid horsewoman, and is passing her love of horses down to her girls.

That little speck of blonde hair on the other side of this big mare is Jaeden McCarter.  Jaeden shows Cocoa in the Snow in local playday events, and plans to exhibit her mare in Marshall, come september.

Tracy Brose is our club 'horse clinician' giving help with members horses where and if needed.  Here Tracy is showing her filly Glory, the plastic water.  No step for a stepper!

Great shot of Marilyn on Cutter, running through trail class obstacles. Cutter wasn't scared of anything...except the baby calf that stood up on the outside of the arena just as he was passing!

gina and Fancy Stockings repeating 'I can back up, I can back up"  Fancy is Kristie's mare, and she's a beauty!

Kristie and her granddaughter Kendell, lead Matilda around the arena, practicing for those moves for halter class.

Tracy and Rhonda let their ponies catch their breath after a gallop practicing the Cherokee Ribbon Race.  It was a hot and dusty day, but we all had fun! Rhonda is great to make homemade icecream and brownies, to help us regain our strength!

Texas summers demand water breaks, and plenty of 'em! Marilyn and Maegan sip on water and sweet tea.

Kaelyn McCarter isn't afraid to get dirty, as you can see! This little sister is double tough, and a real good rider!

Gina on Joaquin de Spanish. This shot was taken at Tarrant Ranch on Memorial weekend.

Here are some Kichi club members by the fire.  We invited our friends to a weiner roast, told them all about the American Indian Horse, and our club was born. It has been great fun, and i believe we have a super bunch of folks.
