Concern over clubs and societies

Apart from the economic situation which effects everyone, players are concerned that some societies have a problem in getting members to run them.   Several have folded up because of this.   It appears that members want clubs and societies to carry on -  but no-one wants the responsibility of running them.

This has been overcome in some areas by players themselves running a society, in a similar way to running their own festivals at hotels.   Of course the attraction at  residential events is that they are a break from all the household chores, especially for the lady of the house with no cooking to worry about.   Festival events also have more than one player, which means a variety of entertainment.    It is likely, therefore, that with some societies finishing the festival scene will increase.   The future may very well see smaller cosy events like the Sherborne Keyboard Winter Warmer with the added attraction of festive fun to match the season.
