Email scam

Player's name used in email scam

Dirkjan Ranzijn, the international organist, says that his emails have been hacked into and his name used in an attempt to get money from keyboard enthusiasts, according to one of our reporters who has spoken to him.

The fraudulent email, appearing below, was sent to those listed in Dirkjan email address book.

Our reporter informs us that Dirkjan has not left the UK and was distressed to know what has happened.

Here is the text of the email sent to many enthusiasts:-

To undisclosed recepients

"I really hope this gets to you in time, I was involved in a robbery during my trip to Valencia,Spain. I was mugged, all my belongings including mobile phone and credit card were all stolen.I asked my bank to cancel my cards and place hold on my account to avoid unauthorized access. I need your help flying back home.

Am cash strapped at the moment. I've made contact with my bank but the best they could do was to send me a new card in the mail which will take 3-5 working days to arrive here. I need you to lend me some money to sort my self out of this predicament, i will pay back once i make it out of Spain.

Western union  is the fastest option to wire funds to me. Let me know if you need my details(Full names/location) to effect a transfer. You can reach me via email or hotel's desk phone and  the number is,+34 96 331 10 606."

OUR READERS SHOULD NOT RESPOND TO THIS.

As one of our readers write:  "It looked rather odd to me me because the player's first port of call should be the Embassy either for England, Spain, Holland or whatever..... depending on who will entertain his story.  That's the normal line that anyone takes if they find themselves with a problem."

It is not known if Dirkjan's emails are currently being received by the hacker.   We hopefully assume that Dirkjan is reporting this serious matter to the appropriate authorities.

Any reader with information on this matter is invited to contact us.   Names will not be divulged.

The power of Keyboardnews.com   Within minutes of the first reader receiving the scam email it was posted on this website.  It shows what can be done to keep enthusiasts in touch with the organ-keyboard scene.

This facility and quick response will hopefully deter anyone attempting anything like this in future.

LATE EXTRA   Please note that because of the foregoing situation Dirkjan has no email account and no FACEBOOK connection at the present time.

Anyone receiving scam emails should report them to:-
