A chat about Brett Wales going to jail

Brett Wales lands up in USA jail

'Being behind bars was not fun.  I tried to joke with the guards, but their guns got in the way,' says Brett.

The September edition of OrganFAX Radio gives the story of how one of the presenters, Brett Wales (left), ended up in an USA jail because he had the wrong visa. Brett states he was kept in a cell with a concrete mattress for around twenty hours, with two Mexicans in one corner who could speak no English, and a toilet with a toilet roll in another corner, until he was flown back to the UK.

It seems to us that some American officials are going too far with security - even to the point of putting handcuffs on Brett.  Not only that, he had to remove his shoe laces, hand over his moble phone, wallet and jewellery during his period in detention.

Chris Powell (pictured right), the co-presenter of the radio show, said it was no fun for the travelling musician abroad unless you are a 'big name' and related to an experience he once had when travelling with his father.

It is comforting to know that, as far as we know, American musicians are not treated this way when they come to the UK - even if there is a visa problem.

Also, there are no problems we know of when travelling to countries in Europe - so it makes you think!
