A classic video and a chat about Mark Shakespeare

Golden Days of the Cinema

The latest Gram-r-fone video by Alan Ashton is, we think, a classic production.  It is amusing, informative and entertaining and has to be seen to be appreciated.

In our opinion it is one of  the best Gram-r-fone videos produced to date because is rather different to all the others.  It covers the golden years of the cinema from silent films to beyond the days of cinema organs.    It is video No.33 in the series and can be seen via the link below:-

The video can also be seen on the Empire Cinema Neath website, which also looks back on the golden days of film entertainment.

September Organ1st Radio Show
presented by Alan Ashton

The September edition is now on-line and features some great players both past and present.  It includes a tribute to Mark Shakespeare (pictured) who would have been 48 years old this year, if he were still alive.
This is the only radio show that we know of that has a slide show with pictures of the players as they play.

Alan Ashton writes:
"it will have been 15 years since a very good friend and one of the most talented electronic 'showman' organists there has ever been, passed away. His name? MARK SHAKESPEARE. I have just completely revamped the tribute show that I presented at one of the Lyme Bay Festivals, and once the members of the Shakespeare family have had a chance to check it out for any inaccuracies or changes to be made, it will be posted in my ever growing Organ Celebrities series. The total viewing figures to date for the 33 films in the series is nearing the 50.000 mark....which taking into consideration 99.9% of them feature organists that are no longer with us, is rather remarkable."
