Short-cut Music?  A chat about sound with no vision

The number of videos on YouTube with music and no vision seems to be increasing - the only thing on screen being the stationary album cover - or variations of it, like the one on the right.

We are wondering if this is a short-cut to either plugging a song, artiste or the album?   It is our bet that no royalties have been paid by the 'user'.   The user may be taking advantage of the blanket agreement that YouTube has with the MCPS, who pay royalties to artistes.

In our YouTube search for a certain player (who is still playing), we found only his music and a picture of the album cover.   Incidentally, it appeared to be put on by a third party.

We think that the whole idea of YouTube is to see something, on the screen, at least, something more than variations of an album cover.

If YouTube is flooded with this sort of thing then it would degrade the concept of putting videos on the network.  What do you think?
