Report from Ian King at Organ 1st
Dara O'Briain and a Compton Organ |
When I received my copy of "Dara O'Briain - This Is The Show" this morning, I noticed one of the DVD extras was called "The Apollo Organist Entertains". It turned out to be a 10 minute feature of Richard Hills playing the 1932 Compton organ at the Hammersmith Apollo Theatre which was fully restored in 2007.
It starts with Dara introducing the feature and then Richard Hills coming up through the stage. It's played in an empty theatre, but is beautifully shot (and thats only on DVD, I bet the Blu Ray is stunning). He plays four tracks including Blaze Away and Danny Boy
Dara is one of the funniest stand-up comedians around, so I bought the DVD without knowing the feature was on there, so it was a nice little surprise.
