Tetragon
TETRAGON
Friday 16 November, 8.00 at the Corn Exchange, Biggar
David Patrick (piano), Brian Molley (saxes), Ed Kelly (bass), Stuart Brown (drums)
TETRAGON began life on 5th May 2007 - the group chemistry was immediate and compelling. Emphasising strong melodies and group improvisation, TETRAGON play some of the best jazz compositions of the last 50 years: Bud Powell, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson, and Dave Holland all feature. The group is noted for its ability to change mood in an instant, from exhilarating up-tempo swing to trance-like textural soundscapes.
While a student, David Patrick opened for McCoy Tyner at the Leeds Jazz Festival, performed at the Cork International Jazz festival twice, and toured Bulgaria representing the British Council.
After completing his post-graduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, David moved to Philadelphia, USA for 3 months, then took up his first professional post, as artist-in-residence in Northern Ireland, sponsored by the Northern Ireland Arts Council.
Returning to Scotland in 2000, David quickly established himself, performing with many of the best musicians coming out of Scotland, including Alyn Cosker, Calum Gourlay, Colin Steele, Doug Hough, Euan Burton, Graham Scott, John Burgess, John Rae, Konrad Wiszniewski, Laura MacDonald, Martin Kershaw, Niki King, Paul Towndrow, Ryan Quigley, and Todd Gordon, "Stylish contemporary pianist" The Guardian
"Patrick's arrangements are exquisite throughout" The Times
