Inverness Civic Trust

The Inverness Civic Trust is an independent voluntary body made up of citizens who have an interest in both conserving and enhancing the general environment of the City.

The Trust considers that Inverness has a unique quality as the Capital of the Highlands.   It seeks to preserve and enhance that unique quality by promoting and encouraging the conservation of our built heritage and the enhancement of the environment. The Trust comments, both constructively and critcally on attempts to change the built heritage of the City, particularly in relation to its Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas.

The Trust tries to encourage forward thinking relating to matters of infrastructure, transport and the general environment of the City so that it remains attractive for residents and visitors and is able to display the beauty to be found in its buildings, some of which were built prior to Culloden (1745) and many during the Georgian and Victorian eras (c 1820 – 1905) The River Ness is central to the character of Inverness, an attraction dear to the hearts of all Invernessians.

The river and its surrounding Conservation Area, in the opinion of the Trust, should be maintained in their present attractive state.

If any  development is permitted, it should be enhancing. The Trust’s committee meets every month to decide on action to further its aims.

Each month from September to April there is a meeting for members at which there is a speaker.

Biennially, the Trust makes Awards to those projects seen to significantly improve the built environment of the City.

The Inverness Civic Trust is a registered charity SCO 21748.
