2014 Games Report
08 September 2014

The Invergordon Highland Gathering were again grateful to Bannermans Tain for allowing us the use of their field at Cromarty Firth Business Park.  The field has proved to be a great venue for us and this year with some slight alterations to the layout all seems to have gone well.

The weather was not too kind to us during the preparations but on the day it was not too bad although we did have the occasional shower which did not spoil the events too much.

We were fortunate to have many visitors from the two cruise liners in port on Saturday, having made use of the Courtesy Bus running back and forth from the town.

Global Energy again sponsored many of the events and for that we are extremely grateful.

They also do a good job designing posters and programmes for us and thanks to Goodtread Tyres who do the printing.

There was a lack of competitors attending this year but thanks to all those who did turn up we were able to give our foreign visitors a good display of Highland Dancing, Piping, Light and Heavy Athletics

and of course the Tain Pipe Band and also the newly formed Ardross Pipe Band were very popular.

Mr Mike Finlayson our local Councillor, Chieftain this year, opened the Games after the normal parade round the ring with Neil MacFarquhar, President and Alison Stewart, Secretary of the Games.  Mr Finlayson also paid tribute to our dear friend Donnie Ross who passed away on 4th July this year.

A special mention was made for Donnie’s wife Val Ross who works behind the scenes in the busy kitchen.  A minute’s silence was held and then a piper played Amazing Grace before the events begun.

Mr Duncan MacGillivray won the Kincrag Cup for Piobaireachd.  Mr Murray Gunn won the J P Knight trophy for the Heavy Events. Cameron MacDougall won the J D Burgess and Invergordon Town Council trophies for Piping and Connor Kellet from Kyle of Lochalsh won the Charles Junor trophy For  Marches.

Thanks again to all the judges who turn up Colline Smith, Jim Jackson, Sandy Sutherland, Alistair Macdonald, Ronnie Maclean and James Macbeath.

All competitors and helpers enjoy the famous soup, sandwiches, pies, sausage rolls, and cakes served by Val Ross and her band of helpers.

Please Note Cyclists and Tug O War competitors we're going to roll over the prize money for 2015 so come on don't let us down and you can win double the normal prize money !
