Designing & Maintaining a Fruit Tree Nursery
Date: 13th and 14th Feb 2013
Venue: “Feed Bristol” in Stapleton, Bristol (BS16 1HB).

Designing & Maintaining a Fruit Tree Nursery  is a 2 Day Course including theory and practical - This course is an extension of the usually run 1 day course with an additional emphasis on practical parts.

Course Outline

  • Info on planning a tree nursery: site selection, shelter and covered growing, pot grown vs. bare root (pros and cons).
  • Info for tree sales
  • Becoming self-sufficient in propagation materials: stock plants/mother plants
  • Sizing a small tree nursery operation
  • Setting-up & running a small scale tree nursery: propagation and plant production info, irrigation and feeding, organic pest management, quality control.
  • Marketing: labelling options, branding etc
  • Course work: produce outline design for nursery operation on your site
  • Practical: selecting & collecting graftwood
  • What you will get from the course: plant lists, stock management spreadsheets, template plant labels

Cost:   Sliding scale of £50 to £70 for both days (Feed Bristol is a non-profit project and we are offering the lowest price possible to run this course. Please contact us if you still feel this is unaffordable for you and we will try to arrange something).  We aim to have 12 to 15 to be able to run the course, so book early please.

Food: Please bring a lunch to share both days and we shall also be making a veggie soup over the fire, there will also be hot drinks available.

Please bring warm clothes and a blanket if possible as the classroom can be cold at times.

Accommodation: If you are coming from out of town and need a place to stay for the night we shall try to arrange this but please give notice, there is also potential for a secure space to park up live in vehicles.
