Scything course Thurs 24th May
26 April 2012

Please see below for details of a scything course, hosted by Trees for Health (not HogCO).

Title:  Scything Course - An introduction to using the Austrian Scythe – hosted by Trees for Health

Description:

A one-day course to learn to use this quiet, efficient and emission-free tool to manage long grass and tall weeds.  Discover that mowing can be achieved with rhythm and peacefulness!  By the end of the day, you should be able to set up the scythe to suit your own requirements, and have learnt a comfortable, efficient mowing technique.  Also learn how to “hone” the blade (sharpen the blade with a stone), and briefly cover the subject of “peening” (reviving a blunt blade using a hammer and a small anvil).  You might not look at a strimmer in the same way again!

Tutor:  Alastair Inglis

Price:  £45

Other details:  All tools and materials suplied.  Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy footwear for outdoors.  Bring gardening gloves.  Tea (inc herbal)/coffee provided but bring own lunch.

Location: Underwood Discovery Centre, Beeson, S. Hams.
