Herb course 8th June
15 June 2010

The weather threatened to let us down for another of our outdoor courses, but in the end the sun shone and contributed towards a fantastic and informative day on the use of herbs as food and medicines.  The course was delivered by Herbalist Hilary Loder and included the botanical names of herbs and the importance of using the correct Latin names, cures for common ailments, a tasting session and demonstration on how to make a poultice, compress and ointment.

Our volunteers were Sam from Exmouth Community Garden, proudly showing off his legs for a comfrey poltice to ease achy muscles and Jenni from South Molton who had a Calendula compress to sooth scratches gained from gardening!  We all sampled several of the herbs growing in the garden and enjoyed a refreshing lemon balm tea.  HogCO would like to thank Hilary for an excellent day and a tour of her lovely garden!
