Who we are: (November 2012)

Running Deer C.I.C. is a Devon based enterprise set up to support local people including those at risk of exclusion, for example learning & mental health difficulties, disabled, and long term unemployed including NEETS; and provides access to training, volunteering, life skills opportunities and work experience in bush & camp crafts, traditional & rural skills, therapeutic horticulture and related activities.

We are developing a therapeutic horticulture project for local people to participate in, and more specifically for people with mental health difficulties who can join us (for as long as they wish) to grow medicinal and culinary herbs, and vegetables - participants will be able to have their own growing bed if they wish to grow their own. The plants (raw ingredients) dried herbs etc. will be available for sale for the benefit of the community i.e. the money raised gets ploughed back into Running Deer which will support this and other charitable projects. We will also link this into our outdoor cookery school project where students and volunteers will be taught how to cook in the wild, including wild food foraging, butchering and preparing foods. Most of this will be done in commercial greenhouses and surrounding lands that we have been given the use of at Frankford Nurseries in Tedburn.
