LATEST NEWS:

July 2012

The bee group have built the hives and have now received their first swarm of 30,000 bees. The bees are still a bit confused and at first were flying vertically up and down trying to orientate themselves, but they are now settling in. The group have benefited from lots of help and mentoring from Bridget (a beekeeper from Okehampton).

Who we are:

We are a charity which aims to promote the mental and physical rehabilitation of persons suffering from drug or alcohol abuse or similar problems. We do this in a residential setting on a dairy farm which produces milk, cheese and eggs. The work therapy side of our programme is very important in providing structure and routine to people trying to overcome very difficult life controlling problems. We are also a community and provide support in a family style environment.

One of our aspirations is to widen the range of activities open to the students, and there has been a lot of interest expressed in beekeeping. We aim to get the students involved in building the hives, learning about the bees, setting everything up and collecting the honey. The honey could then be used by the community and any extra could be sold to support the charity.

OLDER NEWS:
